My Passions and Obsessions
Kate has been active all her life. She ran her first 5k in 5th grade, and played on a travel soccer team despite the knee pain she began having even at age 10. Her activities continued through middle school track, high school ski club, and more. She continued even after graduation, with a love of ultimate frisbee, trail running, and spent 6 weeks in India to become a yoga teacher. Kate is passionate about her active lifestyle. She loves the physical and mental challenge of crossing the finish line – even once when she had to complete an 8+ mile obstacle race with an ankle brace on.
“There is something unique and inspiring about runners and active people, working hard, and coming together to celebrate their crazy energy and grit. And that same energy they bring to the course, I find they bring to their health and healing goals. And at the same time, they have such unique needs and often use performance supplements, like pre-workouts and powders, that unknowingly may be exacerbating the issues. All of this makes runners and athletes such a unique and fun group to work with!"
After a long struggle with back pain, knee arthritis, and various injuries, doctors told Kate to plan to quit running, and that she needed surgery -- twice.
Instead, she embarked on her own path. Tapping into her defiant nature and inner warrior has allowed Kate to come back to running. She studied functional medical nutrition and corrective exercise, and defied the diagnosis – learning how to rebalance and heal her body so she could continue the lifestyle she loved.
She also picked up a parasite in a mud run (it's more common than you may realize!) and had to use functional nutrition and personalized labs to address the ripple-effect problems that was causing with energy, joint pain, and bowel issues.
As she has shown in her own life, as well as in the lives of her clients, the body can heal when we know what to do, and we can get back to the activities we love if we have the determination, correct data, and a proven path.
Put out the fires, determine what started the fire, and rebuild into resilience.
